The City Council of Cerdanyola del Vallès and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) have announced today the winners of the 2025 literary prizes. Sergi Félez Navarro (Esparreguera) with his work Indómit, presented under the pseudonym ‘Rabalero’, is the winner of the 16th ‘Caterina Albert’ short story prize for young people, worth 500 euros. David Carreres Lacasa (Castelló), with his work Allà on t'estime, submitted under the pseudonym ‘Danna Harbour’, is the winner of the 30th ‘Miquel Martí i Pol’ poetry prize of 1,000 euros. Francesc Cabiró Gómez (Tortosa) with his work Aquell any a Xangxun, submitted under the pseudonym ‘L'aprenent’, was the winner of the 31st ‘Valldaura-Memorial Pere Calders’ novel prize, worth 3,000 euros. A total of 147 works competed for the prizes in this edition, of which 43 took part in the short story competition, 53 in the poetry competition and 51 in the novel prize. The winning works will be published by the UAB Publications Service and will be presented in November in Cerdanyola del Vallès.

During the ceremony, Cristina Ruedas, cultural technician of the City Council and secretary of the jury of the XVI Short Narrative Prize ‘Caterina Albert’, was in charge of reading the minutes of the meeting of the jury of this same award, where she said that the winning story, Indómit, stands out for ‘being very well written with an intimate lexicon that describes the environment so well, that transports you to the scene where the protagonist lives’. The jury also highlighted the fact that it is an ‘ecological’ work that highlights the healing power of nature, as if it were just another character.

Joan Carles Marset, director of the UAB Publications Service and secretary of the jury of the 30th ‘Miquel Martí i Pol’ Poetry Prize, explained that the winning work, Allà on t'estime, has been awarded because it is very cohesive and its author stands out for his good knowledge of language, lexical mastery and intertextuality linked to tradition.

Finally, David Vidal, lecturer in the Department of Media, Communication and Culture at the UAB and member of the jury of the XXXI ‘Valldaura - Pere Calders’ Novel Prize, read the minutes of the jury's decision that the novel Aquell any a Xangxun deserves the prize because the author demonstrates a good command of style and places the plot in an exotic environment, where the protagonist explores various moral and relational dilemmas, which end up leading to a tense scenario in which he is forced to make a final decision.

The awards ceremony was also attended by representatives of the two organising institutions, including Virginia Luzón Fernández, Vice-Rector of Communication at the UAB; Carlos Cordón, Mayor of Cerdanyola del Vallès Town Council; and Cerdanyola del Vallès Town Council councillors Andrea Borrego Valero and Concepción Martínez Rodríguez.

For his part, Luzón emphasised the complex task of the members of the literary prize jury, and the contribution that these awards make to the promotion of the Catalan language. Cordón also emphasised the emotive nature of the speeches of the winners, who were present at the event, and the commitment of the council and the university to the promotion of knowledge, culture and reading.

Journalism alumni Marta Ejarque presented the event, which was enlivened by a series of performances by the classical and contemporary music string quartet, Moana. The video of the awards ceremony will soon be posted on the UAB YouTube channel.

Once again this year, the novelties of the Publications Service of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) will be present in the Plaza del libro de València. The 2024 edition of the literary festival was scheduled to be held from 30 October to 3 November but had to be postponed due to the serious consequences of the DANA, which also affected the entire book sector. Finally, the organisers have moved the celebration of the 12th València Book Fair to the La Nau cultural centre of the University of Valencia, from 19 to 22 December.

On this occasion, some of the UAB books to be found in the Plaza de València will be: Ilha do Farol (XXX ‘Valldaura-Memorial Pere Calders’ Novel Prize 2024), by Miquel Ribas; Eixint de fer (XXIX ‘Miquel Martí i Pol’ Poetry Prize 2024), by Josep Domènech Ponsatí; or Ballar amb els espectres (XXIX ‘Miquel Martí i Pol’ Poetry Prize 2024), by Josep Antoni Aguilar Àvila.

The professors of Science Didactics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Víctor López-Simó and Digna Couso, held a seminar about their latest book Didáctica de la física para la educación secundaria obligatoria, last Friday, April 5, at the Faculty of Education Sciences of the UAB.

The presentation was attended by Marta Bertran, dean of the Faculty, and the authors of the book themselves. The presentation was a success, with an attendance of almost one hundred people. In fact, the presentation was initially planned to be held in the Faculty's Board Room but, thanks to the good forecasts of the registrations prior to the event, it was moved to a room with a larger capacity.

The event was open and free for the entire UAB community and the attendees, among which were students, teachers and professionals in the world of popular science, were able to enjoy a coffee break during the event. In addition, the Abacus bookstore of the UAB campus was in charge of managing the sale of copies, on site.

Didáctica de la física para la educación secundaria obligatoria has been published by the Publications Service of the UAB, within the collection "Materiales" and is already available in bookstores in paper format (for a fee) and in open access electronic format.

Llibre i autors «Pensar con el paladar»
marta

The Sociedad Española de Estética y Teoría de las Artes (SEyTA) has just published a notice on its website about the book Pensar con el paladar. Una estética gustatoria, by Jèssica Jaques and Gerard Vilar. The article highlights that the authors offer an innovative philosophical exploration of taste and its aesthetic relevance in contemporary culture. The article can be consulted at the following link: http://www.seyta.org/pensar-con-el-paladar-una-estetica-gustatoria/.

In Pensar con el paladar. Una estética gustatoria, Jaques and Vilar reflect on gustatory aesthetics, from a cognitivist philosophical perspective and considering that ‘thinking with the palate’ is a way of knowing. The volume corresponds to number 24 of the UAB science popularisation collection ‘El espejo y la lámpara’ and contains a foreword and an interview with Ferran Adrià.

Jèssica Jaques is a lecturer in Aesthetics and Theory of the Arts in the Department of Philosophy at the UAB. She is founder and co-director of the Doctorat Picasso (Museu Picasso de Barcelona) and received the Teaching Excellence Award from the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature of the UAB in 2020.

Gerard Vilar studied philosophy in Barcelona, Frankfurt and Constança. He was president of SEyTA between 2018 and 2024 and is currently professor of Aesthetics and Theory of the Arts in the Department of Philosophy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).
