Ressenya: Studies on the Latin Talmud gathers the latest findings on the Latin translation of the Babylonian Talmud which was produced in Paris in the 1240s and eventually led to its condemnation by the Catholic Church in 1248. Prominent international scholars guide the reader through the historical circumstances of the translation, its methodology, the manuscript tradition and the intertextual relations with Latin and Hebrew sacred texts and commentaries (Latin and Hebrew Bible, Rashi, Church Fathers, Jewish and Christian commentators), thus giving unprecedented insight into this fundamental chapter of Christian-Jewish relations. Authors of the contributions are: Ulisse Cecini, Federico Dal Bo, Óscar de la Cruz Palma, Alexander Fidora, Ari Geiger, Annabel González, Görge Hasselhoff, Isaac Lampurlanés, Montse Leyra and Eulŕlia Vernet.

Autor/s: Ulisse Cecini graduated in Milan in Classical Philology and obtained his Ph.D. in Latin Medieval Philology in Erlangen with a thesis on Latin Qur’an translations in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. He was awarded scholarships and research projects from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and the German Ministry of Education. He has a strong training in Latin literature, palaeography and oriental languages, as well as in translation studies and relationships between Christian, Jews and Muslims in the Middle Ages. Currently he works on the critical edition of the Latin Talmud at the Universitat Autňnoma de Barcelona in the ERC-Project “The Latin Talmud and its Influence on Christian-Jewish Polemic”, funded by the European Research Council of the European Union (FP7/2007-2013/ERC Grant Agreement n. 613694).

Eulŕlia Vernet i Pons graduated in Classical Philology (2001) and Semitic Philology (2004) at the Universitat de Barcelona. She obtained two PhD Grants (2002-2006) for doctoral studies in Germany (Freie Universität Berlin, Seminar für Semitistik). In 2008 she obtained her PhD in Semitic Philology (with a study on the historical reconstruction of the verbal root in Hebrew and Protosemitic). From 2007 to 2014 she has been assistant professor at the Department of Semitic Philology of the Universitat de Barcelona. Since 2012 she collaborates with the Museu d’Histňria de Barcelona as a specialist on the medieval Jewish quarter of the city. She currently works in the ERC-Project “The Latin Talmud and its Influence on Christian-Jewish Polemic” focusing on the Hebrew and Aramaic text of the Babylonian Talmud that lies behind its Latin translation.
