On 19 February at 7:00 p.m., at Llibreria La 2 de Viladrich in Tortosa, author Francesc Cabiró will present Aquell any a Xangxun, winner of the 31st “Valldaura–Memorial Pere Calders” Novel Prize 2025, an award co-organised by the City Council of Cerdanyola del Vallès and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). The novel is part of the Gabriel Ferrater literary creation series, which brings together the works awarded annually.

Aquell any a Xangxún tells the story of Fidel Santolaria, an engineer living in Xangxun (northern China) in 1996 who, during a walk, is unexpectedly kidnapped and becomes caught up in a tense plot involving emotional attraction, family loyalty, and moral dilemmas. The novel explores the protagonist’s inner contradictions in an exotic and compelling setting.

The event in Tortosa forms part of the series of presentations the author has held to introduce this award-winning work (Cerdanyola del Vallès, Badalona, etc.). The presentation will feature the participation of prominent figures from the world of books and culture, closely linked to the municipality, who will offer readings of excerpts from the novel.

The “Valldaura–Memorial Pere Calders” Novel Prize is one of the most established awards on the Catalan literary scene. Since its consolidation by the UAB and the City Council of Cerdanyola, the prize has recognised original works written in Catalan and contributes to fostering literary creation, with publications that form part of the editorial catalogue of the Servei de Publicacions.

The presentation at La 2 de Viladrich offers readers and literature enthusiasts the opportunity to discover the novel and its author first-hand, and highlights both the quality of the work and the UAB’s editorial mission to promote and publish works of cultural and scientific creation, as well as to organise activities that help enhance and disseminate its editorial output and the University’s public image.
