The Scientific Exchange (SE) Collection of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) Publications Service recorded 166,500 page views in 2024, according to data extracted from Unebook, the platform promoted by the Spanish Association of University Presses (UNE), which manages this collaborative project among Spanish universities and research centres.
That year, 152 titles were consulted 6,007 times, generating a total of 166,500 page views. These figures represent a 14% increase compared to 2023, when the collection reached 145,644 page views, confirming the impact and consolidation of this solidarity-based publishing initiative promoted by UNE presses within the academic and scientific community.
These data are particularly relevant in the context of research assessment, as Scientific Exchange usage statistics may be submitted as indicators of impact and relevance in applications for research evaluation periods (sexenios). As highlighted by UNE, authors may include consultation figures and page views of their books as evidence of the actual use of their scientific publications within the university and research system.
Through the Scientific Exchange programme, the UAB Publications Service makes its entire digital catalogue—monographs and textbooks from different fields of knowledge—available to the academic community, including students, faculty and researchers. The catalogue currently comprises 194 e-books and forms part of the more than 18,000 digital books included in the SE collection, contributed by 59 university and research centre presses and accessible from any of the 51 participating libraries.
Scientific Exchange statistics can be consulted on the UNE website, broken down by press, library or publication. For the UAB Publications Service, the most active library has been the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona Library, and the most consulted publication in 2024 was the textbook Research in Psychology and Speech Therapy, with a total of 2,556 consultations.
Search by press, library or book
On the UNE website (https://www.une.es/informacion-general-intercambio-cientifico), interactive tables provide access to statistics by library, press—both outgoing and incoming—and by book, as well as consultation data for each publication over the past three years, enabling analysis of trends across different indicators. Searches can also be conducted by book, using the title or ISBN, to identify the libraries where a title has been consulted and the number of visits received.
This information is especially useful for authors publishing with UNE presses, as it provides objective indicators of the use and dissemination of their works in the academic sphere, strengthening visibility, impact and knowledge transfer through university publishing, particularly in the context of research assessment.
