As part of the Setmana del Llibre en Català, coinciding with the day of La Mercè, the collective work Literatura catalana de la postmodernitat was presented. The project spans 1,487 pages across two volumes, coordinated by Jordi Marrugat, Víctor Martínez-Gil, and Núria Santamaria, and jointly published by Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona and the Servei de Publicacions of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
The book, which brings together the work of around fifty specialists, is conceived as a true map of Catalan literature between 1968 and 2023. Structured in seven sections, it offers a general introduction, studies on narrative, non-fiction, poetry, theatre, and the relationship with the visual arts, as well as a section devoted to the reception and translation of foreign literatures into Catalan. The name index, nearly one hundred pages long, demonstrates the richness and scope of the work.
The presentation of the two volumes was moderated by writer and journalist Màrius Serra. Recently, Serra emphasized in an article published in La Vanguardia that this work is not merely an academic compilation but an essential tool for understanding the development of Catalan literature in the international context. The article can be consulted in the newspaper’s digital edition as well as in print (Serra, Màrius. September 27, 2025. “Cartògrafs de continents.” La Vanguardia).
With this publication, the promoting universities reaffirm the role of academic research at a cultural moment marked by content overproduction and ephemerality, and they offer a reference work that aims to become indispensable for researchers, students, and readers interested in contemporary Catalan literature.
